the Blonde log, 2008

May 11, 2008 — Note to self: don't put cell phone in pocket when wading through slippery mud and shin-deep water during acequia watering . . . the water ran too hard and too fast today. Some topsoil was washed away; it doesn't look too bad though. Got some sandbags and will work on berms.

May 14, 2008 — We must double-check the onion count so we don't order so many next year! "Too many onions for Moira's hips" Did some clod removal, post-hole digging, planting with our fabulous new seeder. Had a fabulous lunch at Maverick. Need to get beans in.

May 19, 2008 — We should put straw and wood chips in the furrows next to berries and near the lettuce at Northstar. Irrigation at the Scott field is going better; sandbags are working well in conjunction with the gates. Harry made some great berms. NEXT YEAR we really need to do ALL ordering in February or so, because the shipping alone on the canes that are coming this week is $200!
